Continuous high speed; both speeds at once.

Components associated:

• Pump Air Switch
• Pump Motor
• Contactor/Relay

A) If both speeds are running at the same time, disconnect pump cord and check for power on pump air switch (red and black wires to neutral). If both have power, there is an internal wiring problem. (Since the switching from high to low is accomplished by the same switch it is impossible for the switch to be in two positions at the same time). Therefore the high speed and low speed output wiring is shorted in some way. If both wires do not have power with cord disconnected, check the pump cord for damage. If correct replace pump motor. (In rare cases, a defective pump will sound similar to both speeds being energized at the same time and will cause similar issues, i.e. thermal overload failures, GFCI problems, fuse or circuit breaker issues).

B) If the issue is that you cannot switch from the high to low speed, the only device that accomplishes this is the pump air switch. If it was any other cause, the symptom would be that both speeds run at the same time at some point during testing (previously discussed in A). Replace pump air switch.
