Caution:
Electrical repairs can be dangerous, especially around water. We recommend that repairs be referred to a qualified electrician or spa technician. Regardless of who performs the work, make certain that all electrical power to the hot tub or spa is disconnected prior to making any inspections or repairs. The information  provided here is for educational purposes only.

Spa repairs No low speed pump; no ozonator function.

Components associated:

  • Pump Air Switch
  • Blower Air Switch
  • Time Clock
  • Thermostat
  • Contactor/Relay
  • Pump Motor
  • Ozonator

A) Select high speed to see if that works. If not, check incoming power for correct potential (voltage 110 or 220vac).  Do not continue until power checks correctly. If that checks good, check for proper voltage reaching the 2-speed pump and/or leaving the control via the pump receptacle (RED= Low, BLK = High, WHT = Common, GRN = Ground). Note: reversed RED and BLK wires will cause low and high speed functions to be reversed. If voltage is good, replace the pump motor (be sure to check at both input and output locations, as cords can fail also). If running 110v, insure that the blower is not selected on (blower and low speed will not run together on 110). And remember: you can not check for a low speed problem while high speed is selected; both speeds cannot be on at the same time. If high speed will not engage either, and supply power is correct, check for power at the input of pump air switch (black wires on the end of the pump air switch). If this does not check good, there are either other symptoms that have not been discovered, or there is an internal wiring problem. Run through control operation completely. If everything else checks good, you may have an internal wiring or circuit board problem. If not, trouble shoot based on the new symptom.

B) If high speed pump function works but low speed pump function does not, select thermostat mode and turn thermostat fully clockwise (CW). If low speed engages, turn the thermostat full CCW and rotate timer, with some trippers in and some out, until low speed engages. If low speed will not engage with timer, but will with thermostat, replace timer. If the low speed will not run with the thermostat set full CW (and the spa is not up to operating temperature) but will run with the timer, bypass connections on thermostat. If this brings on low speed function, replace thermostat.

C) If neither timer nor thermostat will engage low speed, check for power at low speed contactor (line side contact voltage, coil voltage, load contact voltage, 110vac to neutral). If line side shows no voltage check for voltage coming into the pump air switch. If bad there is a wiring problem. If good but there is not output from the switch, replace the air switch, if so equipped (it can be good in one position and fail in another). If line side voltage is good at the contactor, check coil voltage (110vac). If bad, this indicates an internal wiring problem elsewhere in the control. If both line side voltage and coil voltage check good but there is no load output voltage, replace low speed contactor.

D) If low speed contactor output checks good, check for power at red and white wires on back of motor (one speed can fail while the other continues to work, 110 or 220vac depending on what model is used). If good, replace pump motor. If bad, check cord and receptacle for melted connection, loose connection, or bad conductors.

NOTE: Ozonator works on low speed pump circuit.  If there is no power at low speed, ozonator will not function.  See also: No Ozone.
