Frequently Asked Spa Cover Questions
How can I tell if my old spa cover needs replacement? click to view
The first indication of a failed spa cover is weight. If the foam core has become saturated with water, it will become heavy and lose practically all of its R-value. Other indicators include: vinyl which has become ragged due to rotten seams, poor seal around the spa perimeter, gaps in center hinge, etc.
A quality replacement cover can pay for itself in energy savings alone.
How long will it take to get my replacement spa cover? click to view
DuraTherm spa covers are very carefully custom made
to order, and will normally be completed in about 7 business days, not counting Saturday, Sunday, or national holidays, plus shipping time. Depending on your location, shipping typically takes another 3 - 5 business days. Our focus is on quality, which takes a little longer than the "just get it out the door quick" mentality of some other manufacturers.
Do you offer rush service? click to view
If you are in a hurry, we do offer expedited 48-hour service for a quite reasonable surcharge. Rather than rush our work (which could degrade quality) we would rather pay our employees overtime to get your new cover finished and on its way to you within 2 business days.
Do you have spa covers in stock? click to view
No, each spa cover is custom made to properly fit your spa in the color of your choice and with the options you choose.
What brands of spas do you make covers for? click to view
We make spa covers to properly fit virtually any brand or model hot tub.
Since 1997 we've provided top quality replacements for Jacuzzi® covers, Dimension One® spa covers, Sundance® spas, Coleman® hot tub covers, Hot Spring® spa covers, Belize™ hot tubs, Master® spas covers, Dream Maker® spas covers, Marquis®, Vita® spa tops, LA Spas®, Cal Spas® covers and countless other spa manufacturers. We know hot tub spa covers better than anyone.
What are the color choices? click to view
What is the quality of your vinyl covering? click to view
There are at least 5 grades of vinyl used by spa cover makers, the top material costing nearly twice as much as the bottom grade.
Most OEM spa covers and many replacements are made with lightweight, low grade material. DuraTherm uses only the very best Premium Marine-Grade vinyl for longer life.
Which foam insulation model is best for my climate? click to view
We offer a range of insulating cores in different foam densities and thicknesses. 1.5 lb. and 2 lb. density cores provide more strength and load capacity for snowy climates than light density 1 lb. cores. We offer both 4">2.5" taper and 5">3" taper cores.
1 lb. density is best suited for indoor spas, or mild dry climates. Covers more than 5" thick are not recommended because they are too heavy and bulky for easy removal or use with most cover lifting devices and provide negligible insulating gains. Many other brands of spa covers use inferior, low-grade foam cores which will rapidly absorb moisture and quickly lose their R-value and strength. DuraTherm uses only aquatic-grade foam cores. For example, our 5">3" taper spa covers actually provide superior insulation, strength, and durability compared to an unwieldy 6">4" taper cover using cheaper construction-grade foam cores.
How much weight will your covers support? click to view
Some sellers make exaggerated claims touting outlandish "static" weight loads, but in reality, load handling can't honestly be expressed in pounds. We won't play that game, because there are just too many variables in the way weight is distributed across the surface area.
5">3" covers with 2# foam cores are generally quite capable of supporting snow loads, and DuraTherm covers have equal or superior weight bearing capabilities, as compared to other brands.
How do I measure for a new spa cover? click to view
Can I order my cover without tie-down straps or a skirt? click to view
Per ASTM standards, we must ship your cover with safety straps. We definitely recommend against it, but they can be snipped-off later at your discretion. We can make your new spa cover’s skirt in the length you prefer (1.5” minimum) or we can make it without a skirt.
Is your core foam protected from water saturation? click to view
Yes, the heat-sealed BlueMax™ Polymer core liner is a full 6 mills thick. This advanced vapor barrier provides superior protection from moisture intrusion into the foam core, plus better resistance from spa chemicals than ordinary spa cover liners. Double its effectiveness with our inexpensive Double-Wrapped Core upgrade, for even better protection.
Will a new spa cover reduce my spa heating costs? click to view
Definitely! Especially so if your old cover is heavy and waterlogged. DuraTherm spa covers are engineered with a prime focus on energy conservation and can easily pay for themselves in heating cost savings over the life of the cover.
What is the life expectancy of a hot tub cover? click to view
There are many factors which determine the life span of a spa cover, and some of it depends on you. Rain, wind, snow, as well as UV exposure from sunlight all take their toll. In addition, the effects of spa chemicals, steam, and ozone also play into it. DuraTherm spa covers are engineered for longevity, and depending upon variable conditions, should last five to eight years. You can extend the longevity by protecting the top surfaces with 303 Vinyl Protectant (never use abrasives, alcohol or petroleum-based compounds, or any treatments containing silicone oil). If you can shade the top of your cover from harsh sunlight, and remove snow accumulations, that's a big plus. Always keep the top latched and locked down to help prevent wind damage, as well as for safety and heat conservation. Don't allow kids or pets to play on your cover.
Do you make covers for the bolt-on Hot Springs Cover Cradle?
Our covers do not accept cover lifters with proprietary bolt-to-cover hardware. These systems are expensive to replace, but you can save a bundle by purchasing one of our spa covers instead, and taking advantage of our cover lifter bundle deals.
What is your warranty? click to view
DuraTherm Standard, Premium, Ultra, and eMax spa cover models come with an industry-leading 5 year warranty, which includes core saturation protection. Our warranty is non-prorated, which means that your protection is not reduced over the full term of the warranty. (Our Economy model with 1-pound light density foam has a 1 year warranty). Is your shipping really free? click to view
Yes, USA home delivery is free within the 48 contiguous inland states, as long as you have unrestricted freight truck access. Some restrictions may apply. Refer to our terms and conditions for details.
Can my cover delivery be left at my house if I am not at home? click to view
You or your trusted designee should be on hand to inspect shipment for damage, and sign for truck deliveries. The trucking company will contact you for a delivery appointment. (Missed delivery appointments will result in redelivery charges.) Damages are unusual, but inspection protects you in the event that your shipment was damaged in transit.
How will my spa cover be shipped? click to view
Since spa covers are too large for conventional package delivery services, they are shipped via freight truck. The freight company will normally call in advance to notify you regarding the delivery appointment. You or someone you trust will need to be on hand to inspect the shipment.
What is the return policy? click to view
Since spa covers are custom-made, and built-to-order with your choice of options, they are unique and non-returnable, except in the case of properly claimed delivery damage, or under the terms of the warranty. (All spa cover companies have this same policy.)
Do you ship outside of the contiguous USA? click to view
Sorry, shipment is only available for the contiguous 48 states. We cannot ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, or overseas.
